Andreas Schneider (1911-1999) was an important industrialist in Heilbronn. His company Baier & Schneider GmbH & Co KG is a leading manufacturer of school and office stationery and calendars. The brand name of the company’s products is “Brunnen” which actually refers to a fountain in Heilbronn city centre.
Andreas-Schneider-Schule was founded in 1975. It is a school of Landkreis Heilbronn (Heilbronn County Council). The County Council pays for the building and maintenance costs and the non-teaching staff. The teachers are employed by the State of Baden-Württemberg which is also responsible for curricula and supervision.
Andreas-Schneider-Schule is a business-oriented vocational school with 130 teachers and 2,859 students (aged 15+) in 122 classes. The principal is Dr. Herbert Wolf.
The part-time vocational school is attended by trainees in, for example, banks, industry, IT companies and public services. The trainees get their theoretical training at our school and learn the practical aspects of their trades in companies. They spend an average of 1½ days per week at school and the rest of the week in their companies (so-called “dual system of vocational training”).
Our full-time schools lead to various levels of general education. The Wirtschaftsgymnasium qualifies the students in a three-year course for studying at a university (just like any “ordinary” grammar school in Germany). The special profile of the Wirtschaftsgymnasium at Andreas-Schneider-Schule is “globalisation and intercultural learning”. We offer a subject called “Global Studies” and we have school partnerships and student exchange programmes with schools in Denmark, the Czech Republic and India.
